Post Production in Progress: May 29, 2010
Some of the most pleasurable days that Garwin, Johanne and I have spent recently have been with Robyn Traill, our composer. Watching him piece together the symphony that becomes our score is an inspiring part of the overall filmmaking process.
Johanne and I have also spent countless hours listening to an array of local indie musicians and have chosen five songs that will make it into our movie as source music in the Roadhouse Diner, at the Oasis Bar, and in Barbara's bungalow. We'll tell you more about this when the contracts are all signed!
As we barrel toward the finish line and a release date of June 23, 2010, we are pleased to be working with the exceptional talents of the sound design team at Rukkus House, the colour timing gurus at Digital Film Central, the on-line and titling cohort over at Finale Post, and the visual effects wizardry of Paul Furminger at Goldtooth Creative.
We've made our first official application to one of the major film festivals and will update as we progress.
Additional Photography in Ashcroft Area on Nov. 14 & 15, 2009
Alyson Drysdale (Writer/Exec.Prod.), Oliver Glaser (DOP) and Johanne Gregory (Producer) headed back to Ashcroft for a weekend of filming without actors. "What a relief," says Drysdale "to not have to deal with our high maintenance actors." ha ha. This is a little joke. We had the most non-diva-ish set of actors anyone could ever ask for. But we didn't need them on this occasion.
So what were we doing? As Garwin Sanford (Director) digs into his cut of the material we decided we needed to flesh out the town a bit more. As the character of Carla goes to the hardware store and the Ministry of Lands, we want our audience to experience the town the way she does. And so, in spite of the fact that the flower pots are now flowerless, the deciduous trees have no leaves and the distant hills are dusted with snow, we found a way to shoot that still gives us the flavour of our unique location and "home for a month," Ashcroft, British Columbia. Williams General Store, the Bakery, the Fire Hall, the trains and more now become part of our story - the story of small towns and ranch courntry we know the world is waiting to see.
Principle Productiong Wrapped September 16, 2009
On our last day of filming with the whole crew, we were back at the 17 Mile Ranch north of Cache Creek working with our leads Jessica Hill (Carla) and Timothy Mossey (Darren) and the horse we called May Day. It was a great way to finish the 25 day shoot which, for B Unit, went on one more day with some highway shots back at the Barnes Lake Road and down on the mesa at Trace DeBoer's Bar M Ranch. Everyone is happy to have completed the film on time and many are ready to go home where the dust and heat are not so prevalent. We have been well-hosted by the town of Ashcroft and all its denizens and so grateful for the experience of filming in their beautiful part of the country. Now it's back to Vancouver and into the editing suite!
Filming Starting
We are currently in the process of wrapping up pre-production and capturing the first of our many scenes. Soon
filming will be in full tilt as we migrate to BC's interior, where the majority of our filming will take place.
